Ok, so I must have had a preminition in February that my community where I work would get
hit with the "bug". Last monday it started sweeping through. When I left work for a 4 day mini vacation we had 11 residents and 4 staff and 3 family members that were struck by it so far. It is not a pretty site to say the least.
I demands a lot of extra work on our dedicated care managers who now have to go room to room to distribute food, distribute medications, and entertain everyone in their rooms. No planned group activities, we ask that no outsiders come in so no family members are supposed to come in and lessen the burden of boredom. All plastic dishes and silverware. Gowns, gloves, masks. The environment certainly takes a big hit on these products.
The health department lab gets some extra work to determine if it is the "Norovirus". More work get samples from all these people that are sick and just want to be left alone. Notify all the families, and the doctors. Get orders to stop all this vomiting and diarrhea. Push fluids so they do not end up in the hospital with dehydration.
In a month ... we will all look back at this and say ... remember...
